Local Police informs in a talk about the regulations for the use of scooters and other personal mobility vehicles

La Policía Local informa en una charla sobre la normativa de uso de los patinetes y otros vehículos de movilidad personal

The Local Police offered last night in the Assembly Hall of the Casa del  Fester an informative talk about the new local regulations that regulate the use and driving of personal mobility vehicles, among which are the well-known electric scooters.

This talk, organized by the Department of Youth, "has the purpose of making known in a more comprehensive and graphic way all the aspects established by the municipal Mobility Ordinance in relation to these vehicles," said the mayor of the area, Jaime Jesus Pérez, who recalled that "Benidorm has been one of the first municipalities in Spain to regulate the use of these means of transport to ensure safety and coexistence among users, pedestrians and other drivers."

Pérez has indicated that “in yesterday's talk we have a special emphasis on the requirements that users of these vehicles must meet, such as the mandatory use of the case and having civil liability insurance”. In addition, “the circulation and parking areas were also detailed”.

Specifically, the ordinance establishes that no electric scooter or personal mobility vehicle may circulate on exclusively pedestrian streets, on sidewalks or on bike lanes located therein. Yes you can do it, however, by the bike lanes located on the road. Also along the road they can circulate in the streets of ‘Zone 20’ and ‘Zone 30’ - streets such as Primavera or Stockholm - respecting the speeds of these roads, as well as in the streets of single mixed platform such as the Paseo de Levante. With regard to parks, the presence of personal mobility vehicles that circulate at pedestrian speeds (4 kilometers per hour) is allowed.

The councilor said that "we organize this talk in a coordinated way from the areas of Youth and Citizen Security in view of the exponential increase in the use of this means of transport in the streets of Benidorm, mainly among young people." Hence, "they are going to plan new talks, this time going directly to those potential users."

In this regard, Local Police and Department of Education plan to take these informative talks to the Secondary School Centers (IES) of the city.
