Powerful third ‘mascletà’ on Av. Jaume I

Les FMP2021 pay tribute to the deceased

16 November 2021

Misa de difuntos.

On its fourth day, Festes Majors Patronals pay tribute to those who are gone, especially the victims of the pandemic, with an offering in the form of a laurel wreath in front of the monument to the Fallen in the Sea.

One more day, at 8:00 am, firecrackets departed from Plaça de la Senyoria to tour the city center. Thus, those who were still sleeping were reminded that Benidorm was preparing to live one more day of its Festes Majors Patronals 2021.

Shortly after, at 9.30 a.m., the mayorales, to the beat of the music bands, collected the queens Mayor, Paula Pérez, and Infantil, Sofía Fuster, to go on a parade to the Casa del Fester 'Diego Cano Enguera', where the local authorities were waiting for them to go to church.

Later, after 10.30 am, in the parish church of Sant Jaume and Santa Anna, a requiem mass was celebrated in memory of the recently deceased persons. The Parish Choir has performed during the religious act and has transmitted (if possible) even greater solemnity and emotion to the ceremony, which was reflected in tears on some of the faces present.

Representing the municipal corporation, the mayor, Toni Pérez, the party councilor, Jesús Carrobles, and other councilors have wrapped up the festive group during the celebration. There were, along with the queens, the presidents of the Comissió de Festes Majors Patronals and Associació de Penyes ‘Verge del Sofratge, Batiste Rostoll, and Adrián Romero; the president in perpetuity of the Commission, Francisco Llorens, ‘Paco Rosera’; the 2021 standard bearer, Vicente Fuster with his family; members of the Fiestas Commission, members of honor and members of numerous local entities.

After the religious ceremony, queens and authorities have thrown a laurel wreath at the fountain of the Monument to the Fallen in the Sea, at Plaça de la Senyoria and, then, tributes to the deceased have been celebrated in the two cemeteries of the locality: Verge del Sofratge and Sant Jaume.
At 2:00 p.m., the queens Paula Pérez and Sofía Fuster, flanked by the mayor and the party councilor, pressed the button for the last of the 'firecrackers' of FMP2021, on Avenida de Jaume I, in charge, by second consecutive day, by Alicante fireworks Hermanos Sirvent. 74 kg of gunpowder transformed into a spectacle that has been enjoyed by thousands of residents and tourists.

This afternoon the program of events will continue at 5:00 p.m. with the children's show ‘Sophie. The troupe malabó ’, a female lyrical circus show for all audiences, in Julio Iglesias auditorium at Parque de l’Aigüera. At 11:00 pm, on the same stage, they will perform ‘Tallarina on tour’, sponsored by Associació de Penyes ‘Verge del Sofratge’. Both representations will be with limited capacity and access upon presentation of the Covid passport.
