Iván Cavero receives 'Benidorm con tu corazón' award promoted by the association Sponsors Science
The scientist Francis Mojica and the athlete Jesús España have given him the award for his thesis on 'Hemoglobin glycaemia, diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease'
The auditorium of Benidorm City Council has hosted this afternoon 'Benidorm con tu corazón' , promoted by the association Sponsors Science and which recognizes the best doctoral thesis in cardiovascular diseases or research applied to sport. An award endowed with € 5,940 that has already received the Doctor Iván Cavero Redondo, researcher at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), for his thesis 'Hemoglobin glycated, diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease', and that has been delivered by the scientist Francis Mojica (Nobel candidate among many other recognitions) and the athlete Jesus Spain (European champion of 5,000).
The event, chaired by the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, has counted with the presence of the councilors of Health, Ana Pellicer, and Sports, Arturo Cabrillo, as well as several members of the corporation. They have also assisted to support the importance of scientific research such as this the local athletes Miguel Fuster, Juanan Fernandez, Jonathan Moreno, Angela Llorca, Lucia Serralta, Maria Carmen Lloret and Miguel Bou.
Toni Pérez praised "the will and the work of the researchers" and valued "the importance of the people of Benidorm supporting initiatives such as this to which our city gives its name", adding that "we are a people, we are a society that beats, we are Benidorm amb el teu cor ".
Both the president of the Association Sponsors the Science, Carmen Simón, and the scientist Francis Mojica have alluded to a touching anecdote for scientists, as has been the donation of a child of his first communion gifts for research, having lived through close the illness of a friend of the school. Simon stressed that "all support for new researchers will improve our quality of life in the future". For his part, Francis Mojica stressed that "it is important that prizes, scholarships and support goes to young researchers, to encourage them to make the achievements of science are everyday protagonists of our lives."
After the screening of a video in which he explains the results of his thesis and the importance in relation to sport, the award-winning Ivan Cavero Redondo has addressed a few words to the audience in which he stressed that "the most important thing for me is that my Work will be useful to improve the life of people every day, because my passion is to investigate, learn and apply it in order to improve the health of people ".
The athlete Jesus Spain has also addressed a few words to the public that has filled the hall of municipal events to "thank the work of Sponsor Science" and in the specific case of the award and the thesis of Cavero "because it serves to show us once again what important that it is for our health to practice sports ".
The queens of the Festes Majors Patronals de Benidorm, Fátima Carrobles and Anna Calbo, accompanied by several of their ladies and the president of the Commission, Francisco Marín, were also present in the hall; as well as children and members of the Scout Horizonte Group. Precisely the children were also addressed at the end of the ceremony by the member of Sponsor Science María José Rodriguez, to explain that "thanks to research and science you can live better every day".
At the end of the event, the youngest received a backpack, colored pencils and a coloring book whose content brings them closer to what the research work is like through the adventures of a scientific child and a scientific child.
