The images have been installed in electrical and traffic light control panels, thus integrating them into the urban scene
Historical Heritage takes the Benidorm of the 50s and 60s to Colonia Madrid with photographs from the Municipal Archive
A selection of images of Benidorm from the middle of the last century from the Municipal Archives has been installed in electrical control panels and traffic lights on Calle Goya, in Colonia Madrid. The photographs come from the Municipal Archives and in this case, they are signed by Francisco Pérez Bayona, Quico 'the Photographer'.
With this initiative, the Department of Historical and Cultural Heritage continues its dynamic of "integrating service facilities into the urban scene, giving them a new aesthetic and a double function, by making them new exhibition elements." In this case, "these paintings have become supports from which to publicize some of the images that are part of our photographic archive and that show a Benidorm in full evolution and tourist transformation", according to the mayor of the area, Ana Pellicer.
Specifically, the residents of Colonia Madrid will come across Paseo de la Carretera, Martínez Alejos avenue, Tormás Ortuño street, or the Mediterranean avenue of the sixties, “when Benidorm – Pellicer pointed out – began to stand out as a top international tourist destination, which did not go unnoticed by the objective of Quico 'the Photographer'.
This initiative is added to the permanent images already installed on the side facade of the El Torrejó municipal center, on the stairs that connect the neighborhood of El Campo with Elche Park, or on the final stretch of the climb to La Creu, where some totems remind the popular origin of this enclave located in the Serra Gelada.
With these images from the Municipal Archive, residents can see "how Benidorm has changed from the sixties of the last century to the present, and how some of our main roads have evolved and been transformed."
Pellicer has advanced that "the intention is to take this initiative to different parts of the city and bring these images of Benidorm from the past to the entire population, in line with the philosophy of 'Benidorm Exposes' project with which we are making our city a great open-air museum.
