Great day of celebration dedicated to Sant Jaume, patron saint of Benidorm
Benidorm lives the third day of its Festes Majors Patronals completely dedicated to its patron, Sant Jaume. That the day is only festive in the city has not diminished the influx or showiness of the events that are held following the security protocol dictated by the health authorities at all times.
Shortly after dawn, at 8:00 am, a loud 'wake up' started from Plaça de la Senyoria to encourage citizens to participate in the day in honor of the patron saint of Benidorm, the Apostle Sant Jaume. An hour and a half later, in a parade, the members of the Fiesta left Casa del Fester ‘Diego Cano Enguera’ to pick up the queens, Paula Pérez and Sofía Fuster and accompany them to Plaza de SS. MM.los Reyes de España where, at 11.30 am, a mass has been celebrated.
In addition to the queens, the religious ceremony was attended by the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the party councilor, Jesús Carrobles, members of the municipal corporation and the regional deputy, Manuel Pérez Fenoll. Representing the Comissió de les Festes Majors Patronals, its president Batiste Rostoll and its president in perpetuity, Francisco Llorens ‘Paco Rosera’. Más tarde, a las 14.00 h, en la avenida de Jaume I, Paula Pérez y Sofía Fuster, pulsaron el botón de inicio de la segunda de las ‘mascletaes’ de estas FMP2021, a cargo de la pirotecnia Hermanos Sirvent de Alicante. Un potente espectáculo pirotécnico que ha consumido 94 kilos de pólvora en aproximadamente seis minutos y que han alcanzado la cumbre tras dibujar la bandera española bajo el cielo azul de Benidorm.
Los actos en honor al patrón de Benidorm continuarán esta tarde con la tradicional procesión y el posterior encendido de la ‘Estampeta’ en honor a Sant Jaume en la plaza que lleva su nombre. A medianoche, el auditorio Julio Iglesias del Parque de l’Aigüera acogerá la actuación de Efecto Pasillo y su pop rock alternativo con sabor canario. Un espectáculo gratuito, pero con limitación de aforo al que solamente se podrá acceder con el pasaporte Covid.
