The Government Board awards the walkway over the Derramador ravine and the demolition works of Leonor Canalejas houses
The demolition will be done during the Christmas school holidays and have been awarded with a reduction of budget or increase of work
The Local Government Board has agreed to award to the merchant José Savall Ronda S.A. the demolition work of the block of old dwellings of the teachers in the public school Leonor Canalejas. The houses were evacuated a year ago in view of a report from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) commissioned by the City Council, which noted that one of the blocks was damaged and a "low level of structural security." The execution project, commissioned and paid by the City Council, has been awarded with a reduction of 15,000 euros compared to the initial budget, which was almost 75,000 euros, a figure that went to tender last August and solved now after an urgent public tender.
This action "is autonomous competence," as recalled by the mayor, Toni Pérez, who also manages the area of Education, and noted that once the award has been made, the works will begin during the Christmas school holiday period in agreement with the educational community of the CEIP Leonor Canalejas and the Territorial Direction of the Conselleria of Education in Alicante. The coordination of the works seeks to alter as little as possible the continuity of the course.
Once the blocks of the old houses of teachers are demolished, it will be the turn of the Conselleria to build in this place new facilities.
Another important action whose works have been awarded by the Local Government Board is the pedestrian walkway that will run from Italia Street to Benidorm's L'Illa Sports Center, which will help to bridge the slope of the Derramador ravine by communicating Els Tolls neighborhood with Parc of the Sequia Mare. It is a "strategic municipal project from the tourist point of view, both for its historical and sporting aspects", as defined by the mayor, Toni Pérez. It has been awarded to the commercial company Aglomerados Los Serranos, S.A.U., with improvements and a work increase of more than 31 percent.
This footbridge will provide continuity and permeability to the urban fabric from the popular neighborhood of Els Tolls and will provide a safe pedestrian route to the sports and school areas of the Salto del Agua and the Parc de la Séquia Mare, where the creation of several recreational and sports areas, linked together by a series of footpaths and cyclists.
