'Edusiónate' information campaign launched by the Neighborhood Council and the City Council concludes

Foietes Park hosts the final exhibition of EDUSI Project to opt for European funds to improve the city

18 November 2017
El Parque de Foietes acoge la exposición final del Proyecto EDUSI para optar a fondos europeos destinados a mejorar la ciudad

The Strategy for Sustainable Urban Development and Integration has had the support of a Citizen Platform and collects proposals from neighbors and social groups

Foietes Park hosted the final exhibition of the project with which Benidorm aims to receive about 10 million euros from European funds to improve the city and the quality of life of residents and visitors, after many weeks of work by the platform civic, born in the heart of the Neighborhood Council, under the slogan 'Edusiónate' and responsible for promoting citizen participation and the debate around the project of the Strategy of Sustainable and Integrating Urban Development (EDUSI).

The new project in which it is already working takes as the basis the one presented to the previous EDUSI call and that included actions valued at 23.7 million to be made before December 31, 2023 and aimed at improving the quality of life of citizens . Specifically, they are related to improving the quality and access to information technologies (ICT), reducing CO2 emissions, protecting the environment and efficiency in the use of resources, as well as combating inequality and poverty by promoting inclusion policies.

EDUSI's area of action is the Beniardá-Jaime I axis, which encompasses the upper part of the Colonia Madrid, as well as the area of the Els Tolls neighborhood closest to the bullring, and the surroundings of Jaime I with special incidence in the sphere of influence of Alfredo Corral. This area is completed with a peri-urban area that includes all the natural environments of the ravines, the whole area parallel to the TRAM track, the existing parks and also two large green areas: El Moralet and the surroundings of the Séquia Mare roundabout.

The mayor of Benidorm Toni Pérez, headed the delegation of the corporation that attended the final presentation of EDUSI and thanked the work and the involvement of all municipal departments, especially those of Citizen Participation and Urban Scene, led by councilors Maria Jesús Pinto and José Ramón González de Zárate, respectively. The event held in Foietes Park is the culmination of the information campaign and cross-cutting workshops that have been carried out to involve with their proposals all citizens in general, their business fabric, cultural associations, collectives social and tourists.

The mayor summed up the significance of the EDUSI project by recalling the document that was presented in 1955 by the mayor of that time, Pedro Zaragoza, "This will be Benidorm", in which the master lines of the city were already drawn and the following year they were embodied in the first General Urban Plan. Toni Pérez stressed that EDUSI means updating this development plan more than 60 years later, adapted to the new reality and applying an intelligent, sustainable and inclusive growth model. "Since the approval of the General Plan," he said, "we have done many things and we have done very well to develop vital projects and continue to grow, a line," he added, "in which we must continue working so that the proposals in EDUSI become a reality even if at the end of the process we have recourse to our own resources if European funds do not arrive ".
