Elche Park beach library hosts the second informative talk about the importance of posidonia

Elche Park beach library hosted the second of the informative talks on the value of posidonia that Benidorm City Council's Beaches Department has scheduled for this August at noon today. This is the second of three.

Under the title "Posidonia: The Underwater Treasure of Coastal Ecosystems," Sandra Cristina Gómez Durán, a graduate in Environmental Sciences from the University of Murcia and a specialist in Waste Management and Natural Environment Management, explained to beachgoers the importance of posidonia in the marine environment and its role in preventing beach erosion through a scientific talk.

Today's talk was attended by students from Club Náutico summer campus, as well as several users who visited the beach library. There, they explained that posidonia meadows act as filters, keeping the waters clean and clear, and are great allies in the fight against climate change while contributing to the oxygenation of the sea. They were also told that posidonia on the shore is not waste, but rather a shield whose accumulation promotes coastal conservation by preventing beach erosion.

The next stop in this information and awareness-raising event will take place on Wednesday, August 27, at 12:00 noon at the Levante beach library.
