Zárate announces the pedestrianization of Tomás Ortuño street for next year
This morning the 'Day of the pedestrian ' has been celebrated in Benidorm, framed within the European Mobility Week in which a group of neighbors, accompanied by staff from the departments of Mobility, with the head of the area, José Ramón González Zárate, and the head the department of Heritage, have had the opportunity to enjoy a guided tour through the history of one of the most important roads of the city: Paseo de la Carretera. César Fernández de Bobadilla, technician of the department of Historical Heritage, was commissioned to show participants along the way "how it has changed, and show the transformations that it has suffered along the centuries" since he was a Roman road to the present. " Benidorm started to shape its urban structure in 1666, when the city "started to have fixed population, thanks to the Séquia Mare". Since there, it has been adapted to the needs of neighbors "changing its appearance" until today, stressed Fernández de Bobadilla.
Tomás Ortuño will be a pedestrian street next year
The councillor for Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate, stressed the importance of initiatives such as the European Mobility Week and the need to continue to comply "with the objectives that the European Union marks us." The councilman is committed to build "a more sustainable city"and clarified the "positive" aspects of a Benidorm "more comfortable for pedestrians and public transport" because this will mean the revitalization of commerce, the historic center and the city itself. González de Zárate, has used the 'Day of pedestrians' to remember some of the improvements to be introduced in Paseo de la Carretera, Boca del Calvari and Tomás Ortuño and has invited everybody to participate in the European Mobility Week next year "when Ortuño Thomas will be a pederstrian street". The European Mobility Week will continue tomorrow, Sunday, with the 'Bicycle Day'. A journey of about 9 km. which will begin at 10.00 am in Parque de Elche. On Monday the 'Day of education and road safety' will take place; onTuesday, the 'Day of sustainable mobility and greenways'; on Wednesday, the Day of the clean vehicle '; and on Thursday the 'Car Free Day'.
