Hundreds of people gathered at midnight to watch the monument burn.
The 'cremà' puts the finishing touch to the 40th anniversary of Hoguera La Cala
The 'cremà' of Hoguera La Cala put the final point last night to the celebrations of San Juan and the 40th anniversary of this festival that keeps the tradition of June 24 alive in Benidorm. Hundreds of neighbours and tourists gathered at Poniente beach to witness how the fire said goodbye to the festivities until next year.
After 11 pm the children's monument burned and an hour later the main bonfire did the same among the applause of the attendees. Mayor Toni Pérez traveled there, accompanied by the Councilor for Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles, the mayors Lorenzo Martínez, Ángela Zaragozí and Jaime Jesús Pérez and other members of the corporation. With them were the president of the Jesús Pérez Segura Commission, the children's president, Adrián Urbiola Guijarro, and the older and younger 'belleas' María Pilar Pérez Castro and Laura Cerrato Casado.
Firefighters, Local Police, Civil Protection and the Red Cross were in the area before the celebration started to ensure the event's safety.
