The Mobility Council will analyze the measures to reorder traffic and parking

The Council of Urban Scene gives the approval to the remodeling project of Mediterráneo Avenue

08 January 2018
El Consejo de Escena Urbana da el visto bueno al proyecto de remodelación de la avenida del Mediterráneo

The Urban Scene Advisory Council has approved today the remodeling project for the first phase of Mediterráneo Avenue, which covers the stretch between El Puente street and Europa Avenue. Through the drafters of the project, the members of this advisory body have known more details of the project, such as the appearance of the avenue during the day and night based on the proposed solutions for pavement and lighting, or the space that will occupy the different areas proposed for the avenue.

The writing team, the UTE Esteyco-Guía Consultores, has presented samples of the material and the proposed tonalities for the flooring: white and gray anti-slip satin tile, with electric blue strips. Moreover, it has been deepened in the definition of the three areas that will form the avenue, which will happen without curbs or architectural barriers and that will be marked by the configuration of the pavement: pedestrian zone, seasonal area and roadway area.

This first phase of Mediteráneo Avenue, about 700 linear meters, also includes the renovation of Triangular square and the adjacent streets pending remodeling, and is valued at around 9 million euros. The second phase of the action includes the remaining 1.1 km of the avenue, which runs between Europa and Atmella del Mar, and its cost is estimated at 14 million.

During the meeting of the Advisory Council of Urban Scene it has been raised that all issues relating to the rearrangement of traffic and parking resulting from the remodeling -and which are those that have focused the suggestions and doubts of the members of the body- will be addressed in an upcoming Mobility Advisory Council.

Some solutions that must be in line with what is included in the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PMUS) -as is the case of the avenue project- and in the Sustainable Urban Transport Plan (SUTP) -whose draft is being finalized- .

After the approval of the Advisory Council of Urban Scene -of which the political groups of the corporation, municipal technicians, external advisors and business representatives and the neighborhood collective- are part, the drafting team must now present the project of execution of this first phase for the City Council to proceed with its bidding.

Details and philosophy of the project

Broadly speaking, the Esteyco-Guía Consultores UTE project aims to update Mediterráneo Avenue to make it more livable, with more green spaces, fully accessible and to operate "as a single platform" with "pedestrian zones," recreational and vehicles. "

In the first stretch of the avenue -between El Puente street and Europa Avenue- there is a recreational area in addition to the area for vehicles and for walking, in which it will be installed in urban furniture and where spaces can be installed for canopies , bicycles, electric chairs or walkers. The pedestrian and recreational zones will be made with the anti-slip material shown today, which will be degraded towards the gray to merge with the asphalt of the road. A pavement that due to its satin character will give a differentiated appearance to the avenue during the day and night.

The project proposes different types of lighting and maintain the current rows of plane trees of the avenue, which would be added a second in the seasonal area formed by native trees of lower height. In addition, it is intended that Hispanidad square operates as a green area with a central space open and passable as a flower bed.
