The City Council will fence the perimeter to prevent damage in the case of landslides
Territorial technicians from Heritage, Education, Research, Culture and Sports; and the General Directorate of Coasts have visited the Tower of Caletes to check 'in situ' the status and address possible solutions for restoration. The visit took place last week and also participated technicians from Costas, the architect of Heritage Territorial Service, Santiago Varela; the councilwoman of Heritage, Ana Pellicer; and the director of Heritage of Benidorm City Hall, Antonio Couto. Pellicer recalled that this watchtower from the XVI century and declared of Cultural Interest (BIC) "is quite deteriorated and with risk of landslides, which can affect its structure and also pose a danger to people visiting this point of Serra Gelada ". Hence, the "need to be addressed restoration to preserve and to avoid damage to the environment, and even people." The councilwoman explained that "after seeing and evaluate how the tower is the architect of Heritage Ministry will prepare a report with two alternatives to restore the monument." The report will be presented to the General Director of Heritage to decide which of the two proposals is more convenient. Looking ahead to the drafting of this report and to facilitate observation of the top of the tower, Benidorm City Hall has offered the Ministry the possibility of using the drone of the Beaches Section of the local police. Meanwhile and for the risk of landslides, Pellicer stressed that "we must urgently address the fencing of the tower to prevent pedestrians from accessing the perimeter." A fence that the City Hall will make following the guidelines marked by the Ministry.
