Classes were suspended for precaution and security on Friday due to a crack in facilities near both centers
The Conservatories of Music and Dance resume the activity provisoinally in different municipal facilities
The Municipal Conservatory of Music and Dance this Monday resume their academic activity in various municipal offices, after last Friday the closure of the facilities of both centers was decreed "for precaution and security" due to the evolution of a crack in the facilities of the Bullring. The Councilor for Education, Maite Moreno, has reported that "the classroom activity of the Dance Conservatory is reestablished in the facilities of José Llorca Linares social center and Palau d'Esports l'Illa, while in the case of Music training telematic activity will be combined with face-to-face activity in different rooms of the central building of the Town Hall ”.
Moreno has emphasized that “it is a provisional transfer, waiting for the municipal technicians to determine the possible impact of this crack, which is located in facilities outside the Conservatories, and to ensure the structure of that point of the bullring to resume the normal activity of both centers with total security guarantees ”.
The councillor has pointed out that "during the weekend and this morning the reorganization of educational services has been planned, including the adaptation of the spaces in which the classes are going to take place, so that the students do not miss a single day of study and can continue their training in the best possible conditions ”. Moreno has clarified that "from the Directorate of both centers will communicate to the families of the students the spaces assigned to each group."
As Moreno recalled, the City Council was intervening in the crack, which is located on the east side of the bullring and is external to the Conservatories facilities. As a result of this monitoring, which has been carried out by the University of Alicante since 2018, it was detected on Friday that although the witnesses who controlled the crack have not undergone any change, there has been a variation in its direction.
For this reason, the mayor, Toni Pérez, decreed on Friday the “temporary, precautionary and security” closure of the Conservatories facilities, as well as the nearby entrances to l'Aigüera park.
The City Council plans to work in the bullring through the funds of the Sustainable and Integrative Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI) with a rehabilitation project that includes the construction of an annexed building and with which a large multicultural space will be generated. and multifunctional in which the central library, a youth center and a hotel for associations will coexist. On March 29, the technical offices that will be in charge of drafting the project will be presented.
Likewise, we are waiting for the Generalitat Valenciana to finalize and deliver to the City Council the first phase of the cultural center, in whose facilities both conservatories will be installed. The Valencian government has promised to finish these works in May, after which the City Council will proceed to equate the building and move the conservatories.
