The car park will be operational until April 10 and will serve to test the occupation and how the future management of the site will be

The City Council opens Armada Española Avenue to traffic and enables a new public parking lot with 372 spaces on Puerto Rico Avenue

31 March 2023
Avenida Armada Española en Benidorm

Benidorm City Council has opened to the public today a new free car park located on Avenida Puerto Rico with a capacity for 372 spaces, a start-up that adds to the opening of traffic on Avenida Armada Española after the works in recent months.

For now, the car park will be operational from today, March 31, until April 10, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to offer new parking options for Easter and the greatest influx of visitors.

The parking lot, owned by the City Council, has 156 spaces for cars inside the property, while another 211 are set up for vehicles and 11 for motorcycles in a completely paved and signposted outdoor space.

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, has explained that this new car park has been incorporated "so that users get to know it and at the same time that we, as the City Council, can test the degree of occupancy, the demand, the hours of greatest influx and other aspects that will help us when determining the future management of the car park”.

The mayor has emphasized that during this time that the car park is open "its use will be free" and has stressed that "it is a great relief and an excellent measure for those who go to the Poniente beach in the middle of the Easter holidays".

This new free car park joins the more than 7,000 park-and-ride spaces throughout the city. For this reason, the mayor has influenced Benidorm's commitment to "a large free parking network that facilitates access to the city and is friendly to the driver" and at the same time "gives priority to pedestrians". For this reason "the nearly 40 car parks" distributed from La Cala to Rincón have been conditioned, acting and tidying up open spaces on public or private land "thanks to agreements with their owners" to convert them into "safe places to park our vehicles".

On the other hand, Avenida Armada Española was also opened to traffic today, where some actions have been carried out in recent months, such as the creation of a single platform, the renovation of the rainwater collection network, and the coupling of wastewater from the apartment blocks to the sewerage network. Pérez has also specified that all the accesses to the Poniente beach and the avenue are open and accessible.

These works have also involved the implementation of pumping stations and a total of 34 connections because some were in poor condition due to their age. In addition, an infrastructure has been built to collect the first rainwater, which is the one that carries the greatest amount of pollutants, to pump it to the treatment plant. An installation, which is underground, and which has been executed at the confluence of Jaime I with the Spanish Armada.

The mayor stressed the "enormous effort" made to have enough personnel "so that the works continue at the planned pace because at this time it is difficult to have enough manpower to develop investments on time."

Likewise, the implementation of the single platform on this road has also entailed intervention in all the fords of the buildings. After the week, the work will continue "with the placement of the layers of agglomerate on the road and the implementation of the technological milestones" Pérez recalled.

Toni Pérez stressed that "we will take the time that is necessary to leave everything in the best conditions", but has qualified that "the deadlines are being met very well despite the great complexity of the work and the unforeseen events that have arisen”.

"With these projects and these actions, our commitment to sustainability and the continuous improvement of water infrastructures that allow our citizens to have a better quality of life is evident" the mayor added.
