The City Council makes improvements in the schools of Foietes area and will generate a new safe school itinerary
Taking advantage of the summer holidays of the Infant and Primary Education students, Benidorm City Council is executing improvements in different educational centers for the new school year. During a visit to the AMPA's Summer School, the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the councilors of Education and Social Welfare, Maite Moreno and Ángela Llorca, have checked the progress of the actions that are being carried out or that have already been completed in the three schools in Colonia Madrid district, CEIP's Aitana, Vasco Núñez de Balboa and Bautista Lledó.
Three schools that, in addition, for "this next school year will have a new secure, public and more accessible school itinerary," according to the mayor. This itinerary goes from the junction of Ciudad Deportiva avenue with Abad de Tormes to Capitán Cortés street, where the entrances to the three educational centers are located. "It is a better connection with the urban fabric of Colonia Madrid and, therefore, is widely used by families in the neighborhood to travel to schools," said the mayor.
Toni Pérez has detailed that "at this point several sections of the staircase have been eliminated, which partially occupied private land, replacing them with an accessible ramp on public land and wider sidewalks to facilitate the arrival of students to the three schools", guaranteeing that shortly it is planned "to provide a new ramp to complete the accessibility of this new school itinerary".
Regarding the actions in the three schools, included in the Municipal Maintenance Plan for centers this summer, the mayor has reported that the CEIP Aitana has proceeded to “repair the potholes generated in the floor of the playground and entry"; while in the CEIP Vasco Núñez de Balboa "the rear wall has been plastered and painted, also completing the sidewalk that runs below it to replace dirt." In addition, "some sections of the fence that were deteriorated have been changed." In the CEIP Bautista Lledó "the drainage traps have been replaced, drip irrigation has been installed in the garden areas and painting tasks have been carried out".
The mayor has stressed that "with this Municipal Maintenance Plan, summer after summer, we attend to most of the requests that the educational communities of each center send us to start the course with all its facilities in perfect condition." These actions, he clarified, “are generally focused on repairs and small masonry works, and plumbing, carpentry, painting and electricity tasks that are in addition to those already taken care of throughout the course, since the maintenance task of the City Council are constant".
“We are aware - he has elaborated - that both CEIP Aitana and CEIP Vasco Núñez de Balboa require improvements that go beyond ordinary maintenance and, therefore, in June plenary session we approved a proposal to ask the Generalitat Valenciana to accept the new 'Edificant Plan' and thus be able to carry out larger actions by the City Council in these two schools and in another 11 educational centers in Benidorm ”.
Thus, he recalled, within the proposal approved and sent to Valencia, the reform of the 3 and 4-year-old children's playground of Vasco Núñez de Balboa, performances on the perimeter wall of the center and the comprehensive reform of the electrical system of both schools.
