The winning clubs will receive batches of typical products packed in glass
City Council, festivy entities and Ecovidrio convene the third edition of 'La Peña recicla'
In the previous campaign, 3,300 kg of recycled glass were achieved.
For the third consecutive year, the City Council of Benidorm in collaboration with Ecovidrio, a non-profit organization in charge of the integrated management of glass container recycling in our country, and through the Department of Environment and Festivals, has convened the third edition of the campaign 'La peña recicla' that will take place on the next 10, 11 and 12 November, coinciding with the Festes Majors Patronals.
The councilors of Environment and Festivities, José Ramón González de Zárate and Jesús Carrobles, together with the area manager of Ecovidrio, today have presented this initiative in which all club members of the city can participate and which, in last year's edition , reached 3,300 kilos of recycled glass, a "resounding success", underlined González de Zárate, and it "is expected to overcome in this third call".
The person in charge of Environment department has indicated that a giant scale will be installed in at Plaza de la Contitución to which club members can go, from 12.00 to 17.00 hours, to weigh and recycle their glass containers. The festive associations that obtain higher percentages will be awarded with lots of typical products, also packed in glass. As a novelty, for the current edition of 'La peña recicla' of 2018, González de Zárate has announced that an 'ecopatrulla' will visit the premises of the peñas "to sensitize the peñistas" in an important task of raising awareness of the importance of recycling".
González de Zárate recalled that this "is the second environmental initiative" launched by the City Council in these Festes Majors Patronals, after the edition "of 10,000 recyclable glasses that will be distributed during the rocks". In this sense, Jesus Carrobles has called for the participation of all the clubs "although we know that they are already quite aware because the city deserves it." The councillor has highlighted the importance of raising awareness among the "smallest" because if "they see that they recycle in their clubs they will also do it at home and at school".
For his part, Roberto Fuentes, said that although "to reach an agreement" to the more than 200 clubs of Benidorm "has some complexity", the excellent results obtained in the previous two calls "are worth it." Fuentes has also indicated that the clubs will have a "registration card" through which the amount of recycled glass will be counted daily.
'Peña recicla' is a campaign that is also promoted in other Valencian towns where there are festive clubs, "although the first was Benidorm", pointed out Fuentes, such as l'Alfàs del Pi, Vila-real, Borriana or Castelló de la Plana .
