The City Council condemns the sexist crime against a 38-year-old woman in Cáceres

28 May 2025
El Ayuntamiento condena el crimen machista de una mujer de 38 años en la provincia de Cáceres

Benidorm City Council held a silent demonstration today to condemn the latest gender-based crime confirmed by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence in our country. The victim is a 38-year-old woman who was allegedly murdered by her partner yesterday, May 27, in the municipality of Aldeanueva, in the province of Cáceres. The silent demonstration took place at noon outside City Hall, led by Benidorm's First Deputy Mayor, Ana Pellicer, with the Councillor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, and the local council members.

The woman was found under the balcony of the home where she lived with her partner and alleged attacker, suffering from stab wounds. A 39-year-old man, the woman's partner and also wounded by a knife, was also found at the same location where the body was found. He is in the hospital and has been arrested and charged as the alleged perpetrator of the gender-based crime.

With the confirmation of this case, the number of women murdered due to gender-based violence rises to twelve in 2025, and to 1,306 since 2003, when this data began to be collected. Meanwhile, the number of minors orphaned as a result of gender-based violence against their mothers is nine so far this year, and 478 since 2013.

The Department of Equality reminds us that Benidorm City Council has specialised personnel to provide free counselling to any woman who feels threatened. They also reiterate that victims of gender-based violence can call the free 016 hotline, which leaves no trace on phone bills, although it is advisable to delete it from mobile phone call logs.

This service is available 24 hours a day, every day of the year, and in 52 languages.
Likewise, in an emergency, you can call 112 or the emergency numbers of the National Police (091) and the Civil Guard (062). If a call is not possible and a dangerous situation arises, you can use the ALERTCOPS app, which will send an alert signal with geolocation to the police. All of these assistance methods can be activated by the victim and also by anyone who knows of or suspects a case of gender-based violence. It is a duty of all society.
