The 'Citizen Card' will be available next Tuesday for those over 65

Next Tuesday, August 16 at 9:00 a.m., the second phase of the delivery of the 'Citizen Card' begins with the delivery of it to all people over 65 years of age registered in Benidorm who request it. It is a card purse with a charge of ten euros for the use of public transport, although new uses and municipal services will be incorporated later.

The first phase of delivery of this card began last Monday for all those people who were users of the 'Gold Voucher' of the urban bus, as well as the students who had the Municipal School Transport Voucher. As Mayor Toni Pérez highlighted today, “in just three days 174 people have already collected their card and we have registered another 64 applications for people whose data we did not have.

Registered persons who wish to acquire the 'Citizen Card' in this phase must request its issuance. To do this, and in order to facilitate the process as much as possible, in addition to face-to-face service -in Spanish, English, Russian and French- a web space will be set up for this purpose in the near future. Meanwhile, those interested over 65 years of age registered in the city must go to the General Registry of the City Council, on the ground floor, with a photograph and ID and they will only have to fill out a form. Two weeks later they will be notified to pick up their wallet card. Once the amount of 10 euros, which does not expire, has been consumed, "the card can be recharged on any of the public buses in Benidorm, with fixed amounts of 10 or 20 euros" specified the mayor.

The mayor has stressed that the entry into operation of this second phase "begins on Tuesday but has no end date, so it is not necessary to attend the first day, but can be done calmly at the time that wants”.

As explained by Pérez, the creation of this 'Citizen Card' pursues a double objective: "to modernize the services provided to the registered population and encourage and promote the use of public transport by offering advantageous conditions". In fact, it is one of the measures contemplated in the 'Benidorm + Cerca' program, for which the City Council has received a subsidy of 1.1 million from the Ministry of Mobility, Transport and Urban Agenda.

As reported days ago, the card is progressively made available to the registered population. Thus, this week began with the users of the urban bus Gold Voucher and also for the students with the Municipal School Transport Voucher and next Tuesday it will do so with those over 65 years of age. In subsequent phases, the rest of the population registered in Benidorm will have access to them, by age group. "The phase that begins on Tuesday includes just over 12,000 people registered in Benidorm" has detailed the mayor, who has emphasized that "the only requirements to access this 'Citizen Card' will be to be registered in Benidorm, maintain said registration and be over 3 years old. Likewise, he has advanced that the issuance of the card "will not have any cost for the user". It will, however, renew it in case of loss, damage or theft, with that cost being 4 euros.

“It is a very good measure that we are implementing to promote public transport and in these early stages for a population that uses this public transport a lot. We want them to use it and enjoy their trips around the city” highlighted Toni Pérez.
