The Provincial Council will contribute half the cost of the action, about 75,000 euros, within the +Water 2022 Plan

Benidorm will improve the wastewater network to the WWTP with the renovation of two pumps

Benidorm City Council is going to make a new investment to improve the wastewater delivery network from the town centre to the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), with the renovation of two submersible centrifugal pumps at the Sierra Helada pumping station.

The Councilor for the Water Cycle, José Ramón González de Zárate, has reported that "for this action, financial support has been obtained from the Provincial Council of Alicante, which within the Plan + Agua 2022 will finance 50% of the cost of the Project". In this way, the provincial body will contribute about 75,000 euros, and the City Council the same amount.

De Zárate explained that “wastewater reaches the WWTP in two ways: the 'Original Line', which starts at the pumping station at the end of Avenida Mediterráneo, at the confluence with Ametlla del Mar; and the 'New Line' with stations in Plaza Triangular, Severo Ochoa avenue and Sierra Helada”.

In the 'New Line', built in its day by the Ministry, "problems and breakdowns usually occur frequently, paralyzing the discharge of water to the WWTP". "These problems -he has detailed- increase the operating and maintenance costs on the one hand, and at the same time make the other line have to work at the limit of its capacity with the risks that this entails, including possible punctual discharges, which is what We want to avoid at all costs."

For this reason, "we are going to improve this 'New Line' with various actions, the first of which is to replace the wastewater pumps at the Sierra Helada pumping station since the current ones are completely out of service due to blockages and breakdowns". With the renewal of these pumps "we are going to greatly improve the performance and operation of this water supply network since they are high-end models and are suitable for the needs of Benidorm and its hydraulic infrastructures".

The second action on the New Line "is expected to begin in mid-autumn" and will consist of "renovating the electromechanical equipment at the Severo Ochoa and Sierra Helada pumping stations, as well as a damaged 342-meter-long section of the driveway that runs along Camino de los Torreros, Severo Ochoa and Calle Nápoles”. The mayor clarified that "technically we have everything ready for this action, but we are awaiting the supply of equipment, which is state-of-the-art and will arrive in the coming months from Sweden."
