Benidorm tests in Benimov Fair, an electric and driverless vehicle designed in Spain
The City Council approves the purchase of two electric buses.
Benidorm has hosted today, in Benimov Experience event, the test trips of the autonomous electric vehicle without a driver designed by the Galician Automotive Technology Center (CTAG). The mayor, Toni Pérez; the Councilor for Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate; the president of the Independent Association of Merchants of Benidorm (AICO), Raúl Parra; the national deputy Agustín Almodóbar; members of the Corporation; the representative of the consulting firm CHao, Antonio Pérez; and those responsible for the CTAG, have been able to verify the operation of this autonomous vehicle during one of the trips that this 'shuttle' has made through the closed circuit installed for the occasion in the Plaza SSMM Reyes de España.
This vehicle intended for collective transport has a capacity for 12 passengers and during the weekend it will be in this circuit of Plaza SSMM Reyes de España "available to all people who want to live their first experience with a vehicle without a driver", the mayor reported.
Toni Pérez has indicated that these tests are "a preview of the future of mobility, especially in cities"; and he has recalled that, as soon as the General Directorate of Traffic grants the necessary permits, Benidorm will host the pilot test in an open circuit of this autonomous CTAG vehicle.
The mayor has stressed that "Benidorm arouses great interest and expectation among technology and innovation companies that for some time now have seen in the city the best showcase and testing laboratory to test their creations", including those linked to sustainable mobility in which "Benidorm is a benchmark".
Coinciding with the celebration of World Electric Vehicle Day, Toni Pérez reported that "the City Council has approved the purchase of two electric buses", taking "one more step for no use of fuel in vehicles" in the city, what " a Smart Tourist Destination (DTI) has as one of its main standards in sustainability”.
