Benidorm suspends sports activities at outdoor municipal facilities due to the orange alert for strong winds

Benidorm City Council has agreed to suspend all outdoor sports activities at municipal facilities scheduled from this afternoon due to the orange alert for strong winds and the yellow alert for coastal phenomena, issued in the province of Alicante by the Emergency Coordination Centre of the Valencian Regional Government, based on the AEMET (Spanish State Meteorological Agency) forecast. This suspension was adopted at the request of the Municipal Operations Coordination Centre (CECOPAL), which was convened by Mayor Toni Pérez at 2:00 PM and will meet again this afternoon at 5:00 PM to assess the evolution of the alert and, if necessary, adopt appropriate measures.

Likewise, as is customary when a weather alert is issued, the City Council has activated the alert and information system for the public through the network of municipal screens installed in public areas, which also includes the techno-monitor in Plaza de la Hispanidad and the techno-parada on Avenida del Mediterráneo.

While this orange alert for strong winds and yellow alert for coastal phenomena remain in effect, water sports and all other activities at sea are prohibited. It is also recommended to avoid high-risk coastal areas such as breakwaters, rocky areas, and cliffs.

The public is also asked to avoid unnecessary travel, exercise extreme caution in outdoor activities and spaces, and stay informed of any updates and official announcements through the information channels and social media of the Benidorm City Council and the Local Police.
