Benidorm supports the new Taxi Autonomous Law for its impact on users and the sector
Recognizes the autonomy of the city to stay out of a joint benefit area
The Mobility Department of Benidorm sees with good eyes the new Taxi Law elaborated by the Conselleria d'Habitatge, Obres Públiques i Vertebració del Territori and whose preliminary draft is now in the public display stage. The councilman of Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate, has shown his support for this regulation after meeting with the head of the Territorial Transport Service of Alicante of the Conselleria, Manuel Martínez Lledó; the president of the Autonomous Confederation of the Taxi of the Valencian Community, Fernando del Molino; and with José Masilla in representation of Radio Taxi.
After knowing first hand the main lines of the new law, its scope and incidence, De Zárate stated that "we will support it and work to make it happen, because we believe it is good for the service, for the sector, for users And for Benidorm ".
In this sense, he stressed that the legislation proposed "respects the autonomy of cities with their own entity, such as Benidorm or Elche, to decide whether or not to join a joint benefit area." "That is exactly what we demanded and what the corporation unanimously approved unanimously in August: to be able to continue with the service model we had until now and not integrate in a regional area, in view of our characteristics and our condition Of tourist city, "he said.
De Zárate has deepened that the text allows the City Council "to retain the power to set schedules or shifts" and "guarantees the autonomous taxi service for Benidorm." In addition, he explained that the law places special emphasis "on the rights of users and the obligations of taxi drivers so that there is a guarantee of the provision of a quality service"; while consolidating "the taxi model that has always been established as a license for a taxi driver."
He added that the law articulates tools so that "this model of traditional individual public transport service will defend itself from other transport phenomena based on new technologies." Some phenomena that "reduce the quality of service and whose added value goes outside Spain, while that of the regulated and traditional sector remain in the Valencian families and has a return on the local economy."
The councilor for Mobility recalled that taxi drivers in Benidorm, in line with the rest of the sector of the province, have already shown their support for the new law.
