With the three actions, specific problems of water accumulation are solved when it rains heavily
Benidorm requests a grant from the Alicante Provincial Council to improve the collection of water and the sewage system of La Huerta, Bernat de Sarriá and El Campo
Benidorm City Council is going to ask Alicante Provincial Council for a grant to improve water collection or the sewage network at three specific points in La Huerta, Almirall Bernat de Sarrià avenue and El Campo neighbourhood, according to the mayor, Toni Pérez. For this, the Local Government Board (JGL) has approved this Monday to participate in the call for aid launched by the provincial body for the repair and first establishment, reform or major repair of hydraulic supply and sanitation infrastructures.
Days after commemorating the Water Week, the mayor explained that "the municipal experts have drawn up the projects of the actions that are going to be submitted to the call for aid"; and that "to sum up they translate into a global investment of just over 275,000 euros".
Toni Pérez has indicated that "as we already pointed out at the beginning of last week, the investment in improving the hydraulic network in Benidorm is constant, also to solve problems of water accumulation during rainy episodes, such as those that have been occurring in the last 15 days, either with far-reaching actions such as those carried out in recent years on the Mediterráneo, Doctor Orts Llorca avenues, the intersection of this with Alfonso Puchades or Ametlla del Mar, either with smaller works but also necessary like the ones we propose now”.
The mayor stressed that "thanks to actions such as those already carried out, with episodes of very intense rain such as those experienced these weeks, there has been no circumstance that has harmed pedestrian or vehicle mobility", or that has affected "the normal development of the commercial or hospitality activity.
At this point, he explained that "in Benidorm, there is a lot of money invested in the subsoil", and it is precisely these investments, which are often perceived as annoying works, which make it possible that "while in other very close towns there have been problems of turbidity with drinking water” as a result of the rains, in Benidorm, there are no incidents in the service and “the Drinking Water Station is performing at 99%”.
On the three interventions that are proposed now, Toni Pérez has detailed that the first proposes to expand the rainwater network of Partida Almafrà, in La Huerta. The mayor explained that "we want to act in Camí de la Parva area, around Almafrà urbanization, in the vicinity of the new urban gardens, a point that lacks a rainwater network." "Just as the neighbours have told us in several meetings when it rains the water stagnates in the lower part of the road, which becomes impassable for vehicles and people, a problem that will be solved with the solution proposed by the technicians."
Thus, the project, valued at 168,862.99 euros and with an execution period of two months, proposes the creation of a collector from Comunidad Valenciana avenue that will connect with the Camí de La Valenciana well, as well as the implementation of scuppers.
The action proposed for Almirall Bernat de Sarrià avenue in the section between Zamora and Juan Fuster Zaragoza streets is also focused on rainwater. Toni Pérez explained that "drainage is going to be improved in this section to avoid the formation of puddles, which is common during episodes of intense rain."
To do this, "action will be taken on the sidewalk opposite the Ensanche de Levante", executing "a collector that will be connected to the Juan Fuster Zaragoza rainwater network, and installing scuppers". This action amounts to 71,129.85 euros and the execution period is one month.
Lastly, in the downtown area, it is necessary to repair the collector on Calle Costera del Campo, a project that costs 35,847.64 euros and can be completed in a week. "We are talking about a sewage network that is more than 50 years old and that must be repaired to guarantee its correct operation and avoid leaks", pointed out the mayor, who added that "this action is going to be carried out without digging, affecting what minimum possible to the neighbours of the neighbourhood of El Campo”. Specifically, a continuous sleeve of pipe will be infiltrated into the sewer system, which allows repairs without the need to dig trenches.
