The Local Government Board (JGL) of Benidorm will approve tomorrow, Tuesday, May 23, to request the Provincial Council of Alicante to participate in the call for aid launched to support hotel establishments attached to the Imserso 2022 program. Some aid to which The provincial body is going to allocate just over 1.4 million euros, of which one million are destined for hotels in Benidorm, according to the bases published last week in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP).

Specifically, Benidorm City Council will receive 1,067,794.20 euros, which will reach a total of 28 hotel establishments in the city. The amount that each of them will receive has been calculated at a rate of 3.30 euros per day and the room occupied by the Imserso program between February and December of last year.

Thus, according to the calculations made by the Diputación, the Benidorm hotels that participated in the Imserso will receive between 7,801.20 euros and 147,160.20 euros.

The mayor, Toni Pérez, recalled that "this aid comes to support the tourism sector in the province of Alicante and very specifically the hotels that have made their facilities available to the Imserso, and that at the excessively low price of the social program set by the Ministry of Social Affairs have had to add the general increase in energy costs and all goods and services”.

“The fact that the price of Imserso was not reviewed in the terms demanded by the sector and that the costs have not stopped growing in the last year and a half has greatly stressed the economic situation of the establishments that participate in the program; a situation that will now be partly compensated with this aid from the Provincial Council that will be managed from the City Council and that will reach the hotels in the city attached to the Imserso”, explained the mayor.

Toni Pérez recalled that “Imserso is a social program that, on the one hand, ensures that older people can enjoy vacations at affordable prices; and on the other, it contributes to maintaining activity and employment in the tourism sector beyond the high season, seasonally adjusting destinations and generating economy”.
On this point, he has remarked that "for both objectives to be met, it is essential to maintain a balance and that the amount received by the hotel covers the costs, something that has not happened in recent campaigns due to the refusal of the Ministry to increase prices of the program in the percentages claimed and justified by the sector, not even at a time of inflation like the current one”.
