Benidorm City Council received last night the Award for Excellence as a Tourist Destination, an award received by the Mayor Toni Pérez, underlining the efforts that Benidorm has been making to consolidate its tourism leadership at national and international level.
The mayor received the award at the gala held at the Meliá Villaitana Hotel, by the director and the manager of El Suplemento, Antonio Queijeiro and Pablo Suñer respectively, and thanked this recognition for the work of a whole people who Is taking the necessary steps to be the first municipality in Spain in which the Intelligent Tourist Destinations Management System has been tested.
This new management model establishes the application of new technologies, and sets the objectives that the municipality must meet in terms of innovation, technology, accessibility and sustainability. The ultimate goal is to increase the quality of life of citizens and improve the experience of the tourist, before, during and after their stay in the city. Toni Pérez recalled that Benidorm this year is the first Spanish tourist town in overnight stays, more than 11 million, behind only Madrid and Barcelona, and estimates indicate that next year could exceed 12 million overnight stays.
