The Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), under the Ministry of Ecological Transition, has awarded Benidorm City Council a grant of 520,270.58 euros from European funds for the installation of photovoltaic panels in "eight schools and several municipal buildings ”, as reported today by the mayor, Toni Pérez. The City Council fully approved to participate in this open call for projects for local entities that favor the transition to a low carbon economy, within the framework of the ERDF Sustainable Growth 2014-2020 operational program.
The mayor explained that “IDAE has favorably resolved the project drafted by the municipal technicians with whom we are advancing in our sustainability strategy and in our commitment to the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, in this case promoting energy savings , increasing the use of renewable energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions ”.
Specifically, and according to the calculations of the municipal technicians, "with the installation of the 1,363 photovoltaic modules provided for in the project, we will reduce CO2 emissions by more than 375 tons per year."
Toni Pérez has detailed that the photovoltaic panels are going to be installed in the CEIP Ausiàs March, Bautista Lledó, La Cala, Mestre Gaspar López, Miguel Hérnandez, Sierra Helada, Vasco Núñez de Balboa and Els Tolls; as well as at Les Fontanelles Municipal Children's School. In addition, the project also includes the implementation of modules in the La Torreta Social Center, the Palau d'Esports l’Illa - thus multiplying the existing ones - and the Wastewater Treatment Station (ETAP).
The mayor has clarified that "the amount of European funds that we are going to receive represents 50% of the total cost of the project, and based on the terms of the call, and as we have already fully committed ourselves, the City Council will assume 50 Remaining% ”.
