Benidorm has held the traditional tribute to Our Lady of Carmen and those who lost their lives at sea, one of the events included in the celebrations held in honour of the patroness saint of sailors.

The procession began at around 7:00 p.m. from the junction of Paseo de Colón and Elche Park, led by the Xirimiters de la Marina and followed at the rear by La Nova Musical Society. The route passed through the historic centre of the city before reaching Plaça de la Senyoria, where the monument dedicated to those who lost their lives at sea is located.

The Councillor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros, took part in the event alongside First Deputy Mayor Ana Pellicer, other members of the Municipal Corporation, regional parliament member José Ramón González de Zárate, and the Director General for Family, Childhood, Adolescence and Demographic Challenge of the Generalitat Valenciana, Angélica Such.

Also attending were the Senior Skipper of the Fishermen’s Guild, José Ramón Martínez Espinosa; the queens of the 2026 Festes Majors Patronals, Laura Ivars and Carmen Guillem; the president of the Festivities Commission, Ramón Cano; the president of the Carmen Festivities Commission, María Pérez Llorca; the 2026 Guest Sailor of Honour, Raquel Castro; and representatives of the Sant Antoni Festivities Commission.

At Plaça de la Senyoria, a floral offering was held in honour of Our Lady of Carmen. Afterwards, two laurel wreaths were laid at the foot of the Monument to Those Who Lost Their Lives at Sea: one on behalf of the Carmen Festivities Commission and another from Benidorm City Council.

The ceremony concluded with the performance of Salve Marinera and Benidorm anthem.

The festivities will continue this Sunday with a mascletà (traditional Valencian firecracker display), scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Plaza de SS. MM. los Reyes de España, organised by Turís pyrotechnics.
