Benidorm opens today the new roads of the Partial Plan 2/1 Poniente with more than 500 surface parking spaces
Toni Pérez highlights that the action "will greatly improve mobility because it offers more possibilities to those who enter Benidorm through Poniente"
The new roads of the 2/1 Poniente Partial Plan are open to pedestrian and vehicular traffic from today. It is an action that has been carried out during the last year, which has allowed the creation of more than 500 free parking spaces on the surface, and the construction of new streets, avenues and viewpoints, with an area of about 40,000 square meters, within a plot - that of the Partial Plan- which covers a total of 131,200 square meters.
A municipal delegation headed by the mayor Toni Pérez, members of the municipal corporation, municipal technicians and representatives of the urban development agent, the TM Real Estate Group, visited the area this morning after the completion of the works, which has meant an investment ten million euros.
The intervention was located in an area of steep topography that required significant earthworks so that most of the new roads have been executed by clearing slopes or embankment formations. In some cases, depending on the project, it has been necessary to introduce containment elements to confine the land, through walls of different types.
The urbanization of this urban sector has generated roads such as the extension of Moralet Avenue to its confluence with Armada Española Avenue, the extension of Mexico Avenue, the extension of Guatemala Avenue and the creation of two roundabouts.
In addition, all the necessary services have been implemented, such as the drinking, rainwater and residual water networks, the medium and low voltage network, the public lighting network and the telecommunications, irrigation and gas networks. To this has been added the work in gardening to implement new green areas and trees.
Mayor Toni Pérez explained during the visit that this work “completes the Poniente road branch while improving and reducing traffic on the first line and solving accessibility problems”. He recalled that just a year ago "what is now a green area was previously a dump" and stressed that there is still a large plot of land for public use on which the future athletics track will be built.
Pérez has insisted that a review of the General Plan is not yet necessary because “Benidorm still has partial plans to develop and what is needed is the agility to do so”.
Regarding the 2/1 Poniente Partial Plan, the mayor highlighted the generation of "green areas and public spaces that allow promotion in this urbanization" while providing "soft mobility throughout the urban space, with wide sidewalks and a great effort for sustainability”.
He has also emphasized the new trees “and the new avenues, which are endowed with the character that Benidorm has; with excellence, cycle paths, bike lanes and the pedestrian as the centre of all operations”.
The action has made it possible to “connect the northern area of Vicente Pérez Devesa Avenue with the southern area, which is the Spanish Navy, where we have already started with the Low Emissions Zone”. Toni Pérez has assured us that "mobility is going to improve a lot because we facilitate the circulation of those who enter Benidorm through Poniente, who will now have many more possibilities".
Lastly, the mayor highlighted the new surface parking spaces, “more than 500”, and in general, the great pedestrian mobility through magnificent, enviable and very well developed spaces with all the security and guarantees that the city offers”.
