For yet another year, the City Council provides this service and subsidizes part of the cost of the trip for registered students
Benidorm opens the application period for university transport services to Sant Vicent and Sant Joan campuses on Friday
In the 2023/2024 academic year, an average of 275 students used this transport
This Friday, August 16, is the deadline to apply for the university transport service to the Sant Vicent del Raspeig campus of the University of Alicante (UA) and Sant Joan campus of Miguel Hernández University (UMH), UNIBUS; a service that is once again provided by Benidorm City Council.
The Councilor for Education, Maite Moreno, has recalled that “the City Council finances part of the cost of the trip for students registered in Benidorm.” Specifically, the Department of Education subsidizes just over 33% of the cost to the user, who must pay the remaining amount.
Students interested in using this university transport can register and pay the corresponding amount on the website https://www.unibusbenidorm.com starting this Friday, the 16th. Once the first payment has been completed, the student must process the request for the service through the Electronic Office of the City Council (http://sede.benidorm.org), accessing the Catalogue of Services, Education, Request for UNIBUS 2024/2025 aid. For this procedure, the completed and signed application must be provided, both in scanned version and in PDF format; and a photocopy of the ID, proof of registration and payment transfer.
As in previous courses, there will be three phases of use of university transport: from September 9 to October 8, from October 10 to January 25 and from January 27 to June 14. Each of them will have its corresponding payment calendar.
As in previous courses, when using this transport, priority will be given to students registered in Benidorm before June 1, 2024. The second priority group is that of those people registered in Benidorm who carry out an activity on the Sant Vicent del Raspeig or Sant Joan campuses, as well as students of degrees or FP modules of specialities that are not implemented in Benidorm and for whom the UNIBUS service is convenient due to schedules and stops. The third and last group is that of students or workers from neighbouring towns.
According to the data provided by the Education Councilor, "an average of 275 people used this service during the 2023/2024 academic year, of which just over 200 are from Benidorm, although at some times peaks of more than 300 total users were reached." As for the stops, there are ten enabled in different points of the city: trinquet ‘Vicente Pérez Devesa’, Avenida Severo Ochoa, next to the Lope de Vega school; Ametlla del Mar in front of Mercaloix; Avenida del Mediterráneo 23; Avenida Europa 16; Avenida de Alfonso Puchades next to the Nuevo Nevada cafeteria and next to the Economy supermarket; Avenida de Jaime I next to Burger King; Avenida Vicente Pérez Devesa at the height of the IES Mediterrànea stop; and Avenida de Benissa in front of the health centre.
Moreno pointed out that “through UNIBUS we make it easier for university students in Benidorm, and also for those who work on both campuses or study vocational training in the vicinity, to travel by public transport, with a wide range of timetables and stop locations”.
