The doors of the Parish Church of Sant Jaume and Santa Anna have opened this afternoon to give way to the solemn procession in honor of the patron saint of Benidorm that has toured the downtown
The Festes Majors Patronals 2023 continued this afternoon with the solemn procession in honor of Sant Jaume. The procession departed from the parish church of Sant Jaume shortly after 7:00 p.m. and solemnly toured the streets of Mayor, Alameda del Mayor Pedro Zaragoza Orts, Paseo de la Carretera, Santa Faz, Mal Pas, and Plaza de Saint James.
As usual, several thousand residents and tourists have gathered in the main streets. The mayor, Toni Pérez, together with the councillor of Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros, have accompanied the Queens, Angélica Morenilla and Daniela Talavera, and their Dames, along the tour with a large representation of the municipal corporation. Also with the authorities were the regional deputies, Manuel Pérez Fenoll, José Ramón González de Zárate and Mario Villar, Senator Agustín Almodóbar, the parish priest Juan Antonio González, the standard bearer Gregorio Devesa, the honorary members, the Associació de Penyes and numerous neighbors.
Likewise, Mariners de la Mare de Dèu, Costalers de Sant Jaume, and the music bands of La Nova, L'Illa, and Unión Musical de Benidorm participated in the procession to the patron saint of Benidorm.
In the end, back at Plaza de Sant Jaume, the traditional 'stampeta' was set off, illuminating the square on an already night. Next, and inside the parish temple as is tradition, the parish priest Juan Antonio González read the list with the proposal of the 115 members of the Commission who will take responsibility for organizing the next Festes Majors Patronals of 2024.
At night it was the turn of live music with the local band Locos de Atar at Plaza de SS MM Reyes de España. At 11:30 p.m. a 'mascletá' was set off on Jaime I Avenue and at midnight Shakara Orchestra performed in Huerto de Colón. Half an hour later in the Town Hall square, it was the turn of the Bombay concert.
Tuesday's day will begin with an aerial bombardment at eight in the morning, popular chocolate in the mayoral tent at nine, and at 10:30 the solemn requiem mass will be celebrated in the church of Sant Jaume i Santa Anna. At the end of the ceremony, a laurel wreath will be offered before the monument to the Fallen at Sea at Plaza de la Senyoría.
