The City Council joins the official day of mourning decreed by the Generalitat and conveys its condolences to the families and friends of the 229 people who lost their lives

Benidorm observes a minute of silence in remembrance and tribute to the victims of the flood

Benidorm City Council observed a minute of silence this afternoon in memory of the victims of the catastrophe that claimed the lives of 229 people in the flash floods that struck the province of Valencia a year ago. The silent vigil took place in the Plaza de SS MM los Reyes de España (Square of Their Majesties the Kings of Spain) and was led by the First Deputy Mayor, Ana Pellicer, along with a large representation of the City Council and numerous citizens, who thus showed their respect and remembrance for the victims and all those affected.

With this public gathering, Benidorm joined the call issued by the Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FVMP).

Likewise, the Benidorm City Council joined the official mourning decreed by the Valencian Government throughout the Valencian Community this Wednesday, lowering the flags on all official buildings and other public spaces to half-mast.

In an official statement, Mayor Toni Pérez recalled that “on October 29, 2024, the Valencian Community suffered its most severe natural disaster, with a flash flood that claimed the lives of 229 people.” The statement added, “Furthermore, the unprecedented intensity, extent, and scope of the storm caused significant damage to property and infrastructure, affecting thousands of people who suffered substantial losses to their homes and belongings, as well as disruptions to transportation and access to basic services.”

Therefore, in addition to declaring October 29 an official day of mourning in Benidorm, the mayor conveyed, on behalf of the entire community, “the condolences of the Benidorm City Council and its support to all those affected.”
