The Neighborhood Council has addressed today the degree of compliance with the participatory accounts of 2017

Benidorm meets 100% of the Participatory Budget and executes half of the 'extra' proposals of the neighbors

19 June 2018
Benidorm cumple el 100% del Presupuesto Participativo y ejecuta la mitad de las propuestas ‘extra’ de los vecinos

The majority of pending actions launched in the assembly are technically unfeasible

Benidorm City Council has fully fulfilled the 2017 Participatory Budget, and has also executed an important percentage of the 38 proposals launched by the citizens in the neighborhood assembly in which the projects to be developed were charged to the municipal accounts of that exercise. Specifically, in addition to the three most voted proposals, 15 of those lit by the neighbors have been carried out, far exceeding the 235,000 euros reserved for the Participatory Budget.

This has been transferred today by the first vice president of the Neighborhood Council, Fernando Montes, during the ordinary session of the body chaired by the mayor, Toni Pérez, in which the Councilor for Citizen Participation, Mª Jesús Pinto, participated; and in which the actions taken by the City Council in relation to the Participatory Budgets of 2017 have been reported.

Montes has specified that "of the 38 estimated proposals, three have been implemented under the 2017 Participatory Budget". It is, specifically, the configuration of accessible sidewalks in seven points of the Els Tolls neighborhood; the adaptation of the traffic lights of the Valencian Community avenue with Belgium and Europe to deaf-blind users; and to the construction of the pedestrian walkway to join Calle Italia and the Palau d'Esports l'Illa.

In addition, "another 15 have been fulfilled under other budget items" and "five more have been partially executed". Likewise, "two of the neighborhood proposals are included in the Sustainable Urban Development and Integration Strategy (EDUSI)" and "two others will be implemented with the 2018 budget".

On the 11 proposals not executed, the councilman of Urban Scene, José Ramón González de Zárate, has indicated that part of them "are not technically viable, as indicated by the reports prepared by the municipal services."

With these figures on the table, the first vice president of the Neighborhood Council has ensured that "the balance is very positive", and recalled that the 2018 accounts include an investment of 400,000 euros for the Participatory Budget. With charge to that money, and based on the proposal sent by the competent body, "pedestrian recesses and lugs" will be carried out at the intersections of the avenue Andalucía with different streets of the Els Tolls neighborhood -valued in something more than 221,000 euros- and the Els Atmellers park will be expanded, where the installation of biosaludable elements is foreseen - the cost is estimated at around 204,000 euros.

The mayor thanked his work to "all the people who participated in the preparation of the Participatory Budget of 2018".

The Self-Regulation of the Participatory Budget of 2019 was unanimously approved at the same session of the Neighborhood Council.
