Benidorm launches the ‘Actíva-t Fest’ program to promote physical activity, health and well-being in people over 50
Benidorm City Council's Department of Sports has announced the launch of the ‘Actíva-t Fest’ program, which aims to promote active and healthy ageing. This was explained today by the Councillor for Sports, Javier Jordá, who also specified that, with the slogan ‘Your health, our goal,’ this initiative is funded by the European Union through the Next Generation EU funds. Specifically, this action is included in the ‘Verde Benidorm’ Destination Tourism Sustainability Plan (PSTD) within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
Jordá emphasised that it is a project designed “to promote well-being, health, and physical activity among the population over 50 years of age in Benidorm and its visitors through a varied and free range of sports activities.” These free sports services, the councillor specified, will begin next Monday, January 19, and will maintain a regular schedule for an initial period of three months.
These activities, “led by specialised instructors,” will take place in locations such as the Palau d’Esports, Foietes Park, El Moralet, Sierra Helada, Séquia Mare Park, the Guillermo Amor Sports Complex, community centres, Tossal de La Cala, and Levante and Poniente beaches.
The scheduled activities will be “very varied,” according to Jordá, who listed some examples, including group walks, swimming, aquagym, Pilates, adapted running, beach pétanque, tai chi, yoga for seniors, light weightlifting, Zumba, dance fitness, adapted paddle tennis, historical hiking, coastal walks, kayaking, and more.
For more information, those interested can find information points at Foietes Park on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 to 11:00, at l’Aigüera Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 to 11:00, at El Moralet Park on Mondays and Wednesdays from 11:30 to 13:30, at the outdoor fitness area in Rincón de Loix on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 to 13:30, and at Palau d’Esports on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00 to 12:00. “There will also be workshops on healthy aging, nutrition, psychology, and more,” stated Jordá, who emphasized that “Benidorm is a perfect city for these activities because we have many natural spaces to hold them.”
This activity, part of the ‘Actíva-t Fest’ program, is aimed not only at Benidorm residents over 50, but also at visitors of that age, up to the maximum capacity of the activities, which is mostly set at 20 people.
On the other hand, a welcome fair, originally scheduled for this Saturday, will now take place in Elche Park on Saturday the 24th, but has been postponed due to the forecast of rain.
