National tourism opts for the city; tourist occupation are over 70% this weekend and the beaches have registered 475,000 users since August 1

Benidorm keeps the pulse and resists

15 August 2020
Benidorm mantiene el pulso y resiste

The mayor, Toni Pérez, highlights the municipal and social involvement, respect for health regulations, Benidorm's capacity for resilience and the universal benchmark of the city as a place of happiness

Benidorm gives one more example of its power when it reaches the peak of August, keeps the pulse of the situation and resists the impact of the sustained crisis on the pillars that have made it a leader in Sun and Beaches tourism in the Mediterranean: resilience capacity, hospitality, design and structure of the city, collective involvement of residents and tourists, management of the situation and position in the collective imagination.

With 65% of hotels that are open and occupancy figures around 70% for this weekend, the city endures the shock with reality. In non-hotel tourist accommodation the figures are also important, exceeding 60% occupancy.

Benidorm has prepared to face the situation by developing plans that have affected all sectors to support the situation and reach the spring of 2021 in full capacity.

The beaches, the main attraction, have a specific arrangement to preserve the safety of users and maintain control of gauges and distances. Benidorm Beach Safety has proven to be an effective ally in managing the situation. Since June 15, Benidorm opened its beaches has registered one million three hundred four thousand users. Only in the first 14 days of August there have been 475,000, reaching a maximum peak of 41,279 users of the beach on August 9. For the mayor, Toni Pérez, the main issue was and is to offer "safe beaches, beaches for everyone and every day", an approach that is being achieved. With the daily forecasts, this August 15th the mark of half a million users has been exceeded so far this month.

With all these elements, Pérez stressed that despite the general situation, “Benidorm is resisting thanks to the capacity of the city itself, the professionalism of its businessmen and workers, the involvement of the entire city-tourist destination, the attractiveness of the Benidorm brand and its emotional position as a benchmark for happiness and vacation leisure ”.

And in this month of August, in addition - the mayor recalled -, "Benidorm continues to be the epicenter of commercial filming activity and several brands and events are recording their next advertising spots on beaches, streets and parts of the city"

The mayor, in the month of August in Ecuador, wanted to thank the general behavior of the population, tourists and residents, in respect of the security measures and regulations that are being launched from the different administrations, with different degrees of incidence in the development of tourist and civic activity, highlighting "the coexistence, civility and responsibility of all in the streets and beaches of the city", encouraging them to continue in this line, since these measures tend to be tougher.

Regarding the future, which Benidorm observes with moderate optimism, Toni Pérez stressed that "we know that until there is no vaccine or effective treatment we have to do our part". And he pointed out that "the city council and all municipal departments are working so that Benidorm continues to be the most desired place for vacations and the safest and most responsible destination."

Pérez appealed to the public awareness, remain vigilant and remain active in sanitary hygiene measures, in order to maintain this status of relative normality in the face of developments in phases of the pandemic.
