The façade of City Hall displays a banner to draw attention and encourage vaccination against this disease
Benidorm joins the Rotary Club in its campaign for World Polio Eradication Day
The Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and numerous members of the municipal council have joined the Rotary Club of Benidorm's campaign to draw attention to the need to continue promoting polio vaccination campaigns worldwide. On the occasion of World Polio Eradication Day, which is commemorated on October 24, representatives of this charity visited City Hall and participated in the display of a banner to raise awareness and funds against this vaccine-preventable disease, which still threatens thousands of children in some countries around the world, especially in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The Rotary Club stated that, in recent years, since the COVID-19 pandemic, wastewater has been analysed in many cities, and poliovirus has been detected in several European cities. "This means that we cannot let our guard down, continue to maintain a high vaccination coverage rate, and continue fighting for the eradication of the disease worldwide."
The Rotary Club is made up of a network of 1.4 million volunteers from more than 35,000 Rotary clubs worldwide.
Their service seeks to improve living conditions locally and internationally, from providing aid to those in need in their own communities to working toward a polio-free world.
