The placement of a pink ribbon in the City Hall gardens kicks off the city's activities scheduled for World Breast Cancer Day

Benidorm joins Anémona once again this year to support its fight against breast cancer

14 October 2025
Benidorm se une un año más a Anémona para apoyar su lucha contra el cáncer de mama

The 23rd edition of the Solidarity March will be held on Sunday, October 26th

The gardens of Benidorm City Hall have been displaying a pink ribbon since Tuesday to show the city's support for those affected by breast cancer and their families, as well as for research projects against this disease. Mayor Toni Pérez, Equality Councillor Ángela Zaragozí, and other members of the City Council participated today in the placement of the commemorative ribbon, along with numerous members of the Marina Baixa Self-Help Group for Women with Breast and Gynaecological Cancer, Anémona, led by its president, María Botella.

This was the first of several events that will take place this week and next in our city to mark World Breast Cancer Day, which is commemorated worldwide next Sunday, October 19.

As part of the program organised by Anémona to commemorate this anniversary, the women of the association visited the Foietes and Rincón de Loix markets last week, setting up information booths to raise awareness about the disease. They have also scheduled bone density scans by appointment in Benidorm and other municipalities in the region, such as Altea, l'Alfàs del Pi, Callosa d'en Sarrià, and Polop, where commemorative banners for Breast Cancer Awareness Day will also be displayed this Thursday.

On Sunday, October 19th, Benidorm Bay will host the SUMA Rowing League's "100 Paddle Strokes" competition, starting at 10:00 a.m. at the Yacht Club. There, at 12:00 p.m., the public reading of this year's manifesto for World Breast Cancer Day will take place, as well as the winning short story from the 4th-year ESO student competition.

Activities will continue in other municipalities of the Marina Baixa neighbourhood, and in Benidorm, they will resume the following Sunday, October 26th, with the 23rd Anémona Solidarity March, which will fill the city streets with solidarity and this time dye them white, the colour chosen for the commemorative T-shirts in 2025. The march will start from City Hall towards Calle del Puente and will travel through Herrerías, Passeig de la Carretera, Parque de Elche, Alcalde José Such, San Pedro, Armada Española, Vicente Llorca Alós, and Paseo de la Música, before returning along the same route to Plaza de Their Majesties the Kings of Spain. There will be aerobic and gymnastics sessions with José Vidal and María Braquehais, and there will also be a tasting of rice dishes donated by the city's hotels and a bar with drinks and sandwiches at affordable prices, organised by the Grupo Scout Horizontes.

Anémona Marina Baixa continues to sell commemorative T-shirts for this march, which can be found at its headquarters in Benidorm, located on La Biga Street, as well as at participating businesses and information tables. They can also be purchased on the day of the march to support this organisation. As in previous years, all proceeds from this event will go toward funding the therapeutic activities provided by the association and the research conducted by Geicam, the leading breast cancer research group in Spain.

The last of the events scheduled for this year's World Breast Cancer Day will be the 2nd Anémona Congress, this year titled "Let's talk about cancer... without fear," which will be held on November 28th and 29th in the Benidorm City Hall Assembly Hall.

Mayor Toni Pérez expressed, once again, "Benidorm City Council's full support for Anémona Marina Baixa and our gratitude for the work they do throughout the year, with courage and determination, to support those affected by breast cancer." He also encouraged the public to join all the planned activities and the Solidarity March on Sunday, October 26th.
