The Assembly Hall of Benidorm City Council hosted the delivery of the twentieth edition of the Drawing and Painting Contest of the Cultural and Recreational Association 'La Barqueta', aimed at Primary Education students, which is organized every year with the support of the councils of Culture, Education, and Fiestas.

With the room full, there have been 64 minors awarded in the different categories who received gifts provided by the City Council and collaborating entities such as the Diputación de Alicante, Hidraqua, Magic Robin Hood, Terra Natura, Marcos Tonda, and Benidorm Visit Foundation.

The event was attended by the mayor, Toni Pérez, as well as the councilors of the collaborating departments, Jaime Jesús Pérez, Maite Moreno, and Jesús Carrobles, other members of the corporation, and the provincial deputy José Ramón González de Zárate. The Mayor and Children Queens of the Festes Majors Patronals, Angélica Morenilla and Daniela Talavera, and the presidents of the Commission and of the 'Verge del Sofratge' Penyes Association, Vicente Solaz, and Ramón Cano, also attended.

On behalf of La Barqueta, Jaime Lloret was in charge of greeting the attendees on behalf of the entity. In his speech, Lloret stressed that it is the contest "with the greatest participation" in all of Spain and that this year it has broken its record "with 2,200 works submitted." For his part, Toni Pérez addressed the attendees briefly to show "all the support" of the municipal Corporation for La Barqueta in its "constant" defense of our traditions and encouraged all the children and schools in the town to "continue participating” in a contest that every year “wins in quantity and also in quality”.

The CEIP El Murtal, Bautista Lledó, and Ausiàs March were rewarded for their participation with 300 euros and an accrediting diploma from the City Council that was delivered to their representatives by Toni Pérez. Councilors Jaime Jesús Pérez and Maite Moreno and the queens of the Festes Majors Patronals together with the director of La Barqueta, Ribes Sogorb, presented the rest of the awards.

The jury of the XX Edition of the Barqueta Drawing and Painting Contest determined that the first prize in the First Cycle was for Saray Ballesteros, from CEIP Ausiàs March; the second for Javier Ortiz, from CEIP Bautista Lledó and the third for Cloe García, from Ausiàs March. In the 2nd Cycle, Iker Cascales obtained the first, Arianna Orgiles the second, and Iago Doménech the third. The three of them study at CEIP Ausiàs March. Lastly, in the 3rd Cycle, first place went to Álvaro González, from Costa Blanca International; the second to Ana M. Solonsova, from CEIP Miguel Hernández; and the third to Daniela Martínez, also from the same center.

The last of the prizes awarded was for the author of the work that will be published as a poster for the XXI edition of the contest, the 3rd cycle student of the Costa Blanca International School, Claudia Engelaan.
