Benidorm fan clubs celebrate 'Mona Day' this Sunday in the Parc de la Séquia Mare

Los peñistas de Benidorm celebran este domingo el ‘Dia de la Mona’ en el Parc de la Séquia Mare

There are several park-and-ride lots nearby to facilitate access for participants arriving in their vehicles

Around 3,000 members of the Fiestas clubs will gather this Sunday, April 5th, in the Parc de la Séquia Mare to celebrate the traditional "Dia de la Mona" (Easter Cake Day), a day of fellowship among festival participants organised annually by the Associació de Penyes Verge del Sofratge in collaboration with Benidorm City Council's Department of Fiestas. The event returns to this location once again, in this park, which is fully integrated into the urban fabric, easily accessible on foot, and near several park-and-ride facilities for those who need to travel by car.

In addition, this year the park boasts new facilities, including new children's play zones, new restrooms, and a kitchen module, where the Associació de Penyes will set up bars to serve the participating club members and distribute Easter cakes and hot chocolate.

The Councillor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros, emphasised that this venue allows people to experience "La Mona" (the Easter cake) in a rural setting, as tradition dictates, and "without needing to leave the city centre and with easy access so that most people can walk there from practically anywhere in Benidorm." She also indicated that "due to the work carried out in this park in recent months, as part of the youth hostel and camping area project, the members of the peñas (festival clubs) will be the first to enjoy some of the new services created in this park this year, such as the play areas for children, the new restrooms, and the kitchen."

Therefore, she expressed her confidence that "we will once again experience a 'Dia de la Mona' full of fun and a great atmosphere" and thanked the Associació de Penyes  and the members who will attend the event so that "once it's over, Séquia Mare Park will be back to its former glory." to be in the best possible condition.”

Schedule and Parking

The City Council and the Associació de Penyes (Association of Clubs) have established that the grounds will open at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday so that the early bird members can choose their plot and unload what they need for the day. Vehicles must enter via the road on Avenida de la Comunidad Europea, where a loading and unloading zone will be set up next to the park. Once unloaded, they will exit via Avenida de la Comunitat Valenciana.

Between 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., the grounds must be clear of cars. From 7:00 p.m. onwards, vehicle access will reopen so that the clubs can begin removing their belongings. The grounds will close at 8:30 p.m., marking the end of the event.

Regarding parking, the Councillor for Fiestas reminded everyone that there is a parking lot opposite Parque de la Séquia Mare, on Avenida de la Comunidad Valenciana. A park-and-ride facility with space for approximately one hundred vehicles is available. Another parking area, with around 300 spaces, is also located on Italia Street, connected to the park via the Els Tolls pedestrian bridge and Avenida Comunidad Europea. Additionally, the Bus Station parking lot, with space for over 350 cars, and Palau d’Esports parking lot, also located very close to the park and with ample capacity, are available, as well as the Salt de l’Aigua park-and-ride facilities, which add another 360 spaces.

Besides the traditional distribution of Easter cakes and hot chocolate to the Club members, the Associació de Penyes will provide music and various activities for everyone to enjoy. Please remember that lighting fires is prohibited.
