The murdered woman, mother of two minor children, becomes the first victim of 2025 and the 1,294th since 2003

Benidorm expresses its rejection of the latest sexist murder committed in Langreo

Benidorm expresa su repulsa ante el último asesinato machista cometido en Langreo

Benidorm City Council has observed a minute of silence this afternoon in rejection and condemnation of the latest sexist murder confirmed in our country by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence. It concerns a 39-year-old woman who was murdered in Langreo (Asturias) on January 31 by her partner, becoming the first victim of gender violence this year.
The victim was of Cuban nationality and the mother of a daughter and a son who were minors. The alleged aggressor is 72 years old and is Spanish. There were no previous complaints of gender violence against him.

The silent gathering took place at the door of the City Hall led by the first deputy mayor, Ana Pellicer, the councillor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, and numerous members of the municipal Corporation, who have thus expressed their unanimous rejection of this sexist murder.

With the confirmation of this case, the number of women murdered by gender violence in Spain since 2003 has reached 1,294 victims. That year is when these data began to be collected. The number of minors orphaned by gender violence against their mother rises to 2 in 2025 and to 471 since 2013.

The Department of Equality headed by Councillor Angela Zaragozí remember that Benidorm City Council has staff specialised in violence against women to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. They also reiterate that victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to delete it from the call log of mobile phones. This service is available 24 hours a day, every day of the year and in 52 languages.

Likewise, in an emergency, you can call 112 or the emergency telephone numbers of the National Police (091) and the Civil Guard (062). If it is not possible to make a call and in the event of a dangerous situation, you can use the ALERTCOPS application, from which an alert signal will be sent to the police with geolocation. All these means of assistance can be activated by the victim and also by anyone who knows or suspects a case of gender violence. It is a duty of the whole society.
