Benidorm condemns the last three sexist murders committed in Antella, Logroño and Salou

Minuto de silencio en el Ayuntamiento de Benidorm.

Benidorm City Council has once again shown its condemnation of gender violence with a silent concentration in the Plaza de SS MM Reyes de España to express its rejection of the last three sexist murders committed in Antella (Valencia), Logroño, and Salou ( Tarragona). The silent concentration has been led by the mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, the Councilor for Equality Ángela Zaragozí, and other members of the municipal corporation.

The first victim is a 36-year-old woman murdered on July 2 in a hotel in Salou at the hands of her partner. The second case occurred last Saturday in Logroño, where a man killed his 35-year-old partner and then, according to the investigation, tried to end the life of his three children. The latest case took place on Sunday in the town of Antella when a man killed her ex-partner in front of her 12-year-old son, and later took her own life.

With these latest cases, there are already 28 women murdered in Spain so far this year by their partners or ex-partners and 1,212 since 2003, the date on which victims of gender violence began to be counted. In addition, in 2023 gender violence has already left 33 minors orphaned and 410 since 2013.

The Department of Equality recalls that the City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to remove it from the mobile phone call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and in 52 languages.
