Benidorm completes these days the urbanization works of Doctor Fleming square, where the iconic 2-meter anchor donated to the City Council in 1993 by the Admiral head of the Mediterranean Maritime Zone has already been reinstated. An anchor that was removed about a year ago to undertake the hydraulic works linked to the remodeling of Mediterráneo avenue, Plaza de la Hispanidad and Puente street.
As the Councilor for Works and Public Space, José Ramón González de Zárate, recalled, at this point in Doctor Fleming square some of the main infrastructures of the city's sanitation, drinking water and rainwater networks converge, as well as the canalization of the ravine of l'Aigüera. Hence the work of "renovation and modernization" of these subsoil infrastructures has been complex, with "the change of the collector, and the reinforcement of the rainwater and the drinking water network."
De Zárate stated that “in addition to the underground actions, we have carried out several works” to renew the image and urban scene of this area. Specifically, “we have completed the remodeling of Herrerías street sidewalk with noble material, also gaining accessibility; and we have executed a granite roundabout, on which the anchor has been placed ”.
The mayor has clarified that this roundabout has been located at a point in the infrastructure-free square in the basement, so that “in the future it is not necessary to remove the anchor again if you have to act on the service networks of the square "
In addition, it has been acted on "the ornament" of the entire environment "in tune" with the image and materials that already look on Puente Street. Thus, the same color of the bridge dome has been used for the backlit panels of the new exhibition space; “The lighting has been reinforced; and benches and planters have been installed ”thus making“ the entrance to one of the most important avenues of the city, that of Mediterráneo Avenue, much more attractive and harmonious ”.
The urbanization and installation of the anchor works are expected to be completed next week.
