City Hall, the Castell and Tossal de la Cala show solidarity with people displaced by war or human rights violations
Benidorm commemorates World Refugee Day by lighting its most emblematic buildings in blue
Emblematic buildings in Benidorm such as its Town Hall, the Castell and the Tossal de la Cala have been illuminated in blue on the night of June 19 on the occasion of the celebration of World Refugee Day that will be commemorated tomorrow, the 20th throughout the planet.
With this gesture, Benidorm City Council joins the millions of people and institutions, all over the world, to commemorate the day and recognizes the contribution and role played by forcibly displaced people in our society.
The UN refugee agency, UNHCR, chose blue as it symbolizes the sky that unites all nations and is the colour of the United Nations Organization flag.
The lighting of unique buildings in cities like Benidorm represents solidarity with refugees. A strong visual element that seeks to attract the attention of citizens and raise awareness in society about the situation of the 100 million people who, today and throughout the world, have been displaced by war, repression, violence or violation of human rights.
