14 June 2017
Benidorm conmemora el Día Nacional de las Lenguas de Signos Españolas

During the day, Apesobe will teach sign language at Plaça la Creu, within the campaign 'I give you a sign'

Benidorm Town Council, together with the Association of Deaf People of Benidorm (Apesobe), today marks the 14th of June, the National Day of Languages of Spanish Signs. At 11:00 a.m., the Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Social Welfare, Ángela Llorca, together with the president of the organization, Ana Belén Amorós, and other members of the municipal corporation and the association, have deployed a commemorative poster on the balcony of the Town Hall building.

Angela Llorca has said that sign language is "an indispensable vehicle for all deaf or deaf-mute people in their daily work," stressed the commitment of the City Hall with these neighbors and recalled that has been incorporated sign language interpreters in full institutional and other unique acts that are held in Benidorm organized by the City Hall. The bet of Benidorm City Hall with the deaf people is permanet. Last year, the municipal plenary unanimously adopted an institutional declaration calling on all institutions and society as a whole to act "in a committed way to place sign languages on an equal footing in all spheres of educational life, social, cultural, economic and political of the city ".

At the national level, on the occasion of the celebration, the campaign 'Te regalo un signo' has been launched, with which it is intended to make known to all interested people the sign language. During the day, Apesobe will hold an information desk at Plaça de la Creu, where members of the organization are also reporting on their activities, this year's campaign and giving children balloons.

Apesobe that counts in Benidorm with 22 partners, is part of the Federation of Deaf People of the Comunitat Valenciana (FESORD). On the occasion of 'I give you a sign' in social networks two labels have been enabled: #AraLlenguadeSignes, in Valencian; And #YoconlaLS, in Spanish. The National Day of Languages of Spanish Signs was adopted by the Council of Ministers of the Government of Spain in 2014 and is celebrated on June 14 because it was on that day in 1936 when the State Confederation of the Deaf People was created.
