The main 'Pride' events take place in September, an event that has already become a national and international reference

This Friday, Benidorm City Council has joined the commemoration of International LGTBI+ Pride Day by hanging the rainbow flag on the main balcony of the Town Hall and scheduling a series of events to publicize and make the demands visible. of this group. Furthermore, coinciding with this celebration, the municipal plenary session has also been approved by a large majority, with the only Vox representative voting against, two motions to show its support and commitment to this group.

The mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, presided over the institutional photo that the members of the Corporation took with the LGTBIQ+ flag, in which Santos Torres, one of the organizers of Benidorm Pride, also participated as a representative of this group. There, the first councillor and the councillor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, along with other councillors, have spoken with Torres about the main events that are being organized for this event, which will be held like every year in September and which has already become a national and international reference, attracting thousands of visitors.

The Equality councillor explained that, in addition, the City Council has organized other activities related to Pride to disseminate and promote equal rights among all people. On the one hand, the municipal radio station Onda Benidorm hosted a special program related to the LGTBIQ+ group on Thursday.

In addition, next Tuesday, July 9, within the Culture for Equality cycle, the play 'No more kisses', performed by Lara Dibildos, Míriam Vázquez, Íñigo López and Javier Pascual, will be performed in the auditorium of the Cultural Center, for which it will be necessary to have an invitation that those interested can request from July 4 at the Jelena Social Center or at the Cultural Center itself.
Plenary motions

Regarding the two motions related to this group that has been approved in plenary by PP and PSOE, one of them is an institutional declaration to reiterate the “firm commitment of this institution to the defense of freedom, dignity of the human being and the respect of all people to live and live their sexual orientation as they freely wish", as well as to "remember, stand in solidarity and raise our voice for all people, from many places in the world, where homosexuality continues to be criminalized, "many countries in which people from the LGTBI community are persecuted, threatened and even executed for simply expressing their feelings."

The second proposal aims to develop the II Municipal Plan for Sexual, Family and Gender Diversity of Benidorm 2024-2028, a plan that is a continuity of the one approved in 2016 and whose aim is to “continue improving the prevention of LGTBIphobia and guarantee well-being and security” through four lines of action, ten objectives and 23 actions to be developed in the coming years, as highlighted by the councillor of Equality.
