Joining the deserved tribute to all health professionals for their commendable work and dedication
Benidorm City Council, on the World Nursing Day, lights up its facade in blue
On May 12, the World Nursing Day is celebrated with the aim of paying a well-deserved tribute to all nurses, who worldwide carry out this commendable work for all humanity.
There are 20 million nursing professionals around the world and, with them, Benidorm City Council celebrates the World Nursing Day by illuminating its building in blue. Blue is the color of nursing and thus Benidorm joins the recognition of the work being carried out by nurses from Spain and the world in the fight against the current pandemic caused by Covid-19
This year the commemoration has a special meaning; more special than ever. 2020 was declared the International Year of the Nurse and Midwife by the World Health Organization. A declaration that represents a great opportunity to make visible the selfless work of the group of nursing professionals worldwide and that is becoming much more visible in work and effort, even at the risk of their lives, in the struggle, often unequal , against Covid19.
Benidorm City Council, highlighted the mayor Toni Pérez, thus joins “to that always so deserved tribute that in current circumstances makes more sense than ever”. "Unfortunately," said the mayor, "it has had to be a pandemic of unprecedented magnitudes that has given more visibility to the work carried out by these health professionals against the greatest sanitary emergency that is remembered."
Pérez added that “for almost two months, every afternoon, we have looked out of windows and the balconies to applaud health personnel in public recognition for a job that leaves their souls, health and even life in the most adverse circumstances. "
Society owes a special debt of gratitude at this time to this group. That is why throughout the day Benidorm City Council looks blue in a tribute action that will be something historic and with great symbolism.
Nursing collective and the Covid-19
The International Council of Nurses notes that at least 90,000 health workers have been infected and more than 260 professionals have died in this pandemic as of May. More than 30,000 have been infected in Spain, 3,200 have required hospitalization and 76 have lost their lives, often working with improvised material and showing great professionalism and integrity.
The Collegiate Organization of Nursing (CGE) claims a staffing and means so that future waves of these and other epidemics are not primed with healthcare professionals, as has happened in this case with massive infections and deaths of health professionals
