Benidorm City Council reiterates its rejection of sexist violence with a large purple bow on its main façade
Theatre, dance, a demonstration, and an 'escape room' are part of the programming organized by the Equality department
Benidorm City Council has reiterated this Thursday its resounding rejection of sexist violence with the placement of a large banner with the legend 'Benidorm against gender violence' given the commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which is commemorated next Saturday, November 25. The mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, participated in the event, along with the councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, and other councilors of the Municipal Corporation.
All of them have remained silent under this banner and have held signs to show their support and solidarity with all the women who have suffered and continue to suffer sexist violence, as well as in memory of the murdered women.
The first mayor recalled that so far in 2023 the number of women who have been murdered at the hands of their partners or ex-partners amounts to 52 and 1,237 since 2003, when the count of this type of victims began.
Likewise, Toni Pérez has highlighted that the number of minors who have been orphaned as a result of sexist violence is 51 in 2023 and 428 since the statistics began in 2013. “Behind these figures, there are people, families, who have suffered a lot and who continue to suffer, which requires us to stand up and do everything in our power to put an end to this serious social scourge once and for all," said the mayor.
Apart from the placement of this banner, the Benidorm City Council has been carrying out numerous activities on the occasion of 25-N since last Saturday.
This Thursday, at 8 p.m., the theatrical performance of the play 'My life revolves around 500 meters' will take place at the José Llorca Llinares Social Center.
The Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, has indicated that tomorrow, Friday, at 8 p.m., the dance show 'Yo y la Otra', by Pilar Andújar's company, is scheduled at the Benidorm Cultural Center. To attend this event it is necessary to have an invitation. Those interested can request these invitations, free of charge, at the offices of the Department of Culture and Equality on November 23 and 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Finally, on Saturday, November 25, at 11 a.m., the March against Gender Violence organized by the Benidorm Housewives Association will take place, starting from the Plaza de SS MM los Reyes de España.
On Sunday, the 26th, the events organized on the occasion of 25-N conclude with the 'scape room' entitled 'Four Anti-Violence Steps (F.A.V.S.)', with showings from 12 to 2 p.m. and from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Benidorm Cultural Center.
