Un momento de la romería

The traditional auction of jugs and a meal complete the celebrations in honour of the patron saint of farmers

One more year, and continuing with one of the most deeply rooted traditions in the Huerta area, Benidorm has once again celebrated the festivities in honour of Sant Isidre Llaurador with the traditional Pilgrimage, in which a dozen carts and several hundred people. Thus, the Sant Isidre Festival Committee chaired by Álvaro Olivar has recalled the agricultural tradition of Benidorm, in an event that was also joined by the mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, as well as numerous members of the Municipal Corporation. Among them, the mayor and regional deputy José Ramón González de Zárate and Manuel Pérez Fenoll, also representative in Les Corts, as well as senator Agustín Almodóbar.

After collecting the saint and transporting him to the centre of Benidorm, the pilgrimage left at 10 in the morning from Bilbao Street and to the rhythm of the music accompanied the patron saint of farmers on his journey along Paseo de Levante, Ametlla del Mar and Severo Ochoa avenues and Camí Vell de l'Albir, until reaching the Hermitage of Sanç. On the route, participants made the classic stop at the Benidorm Palace parking lot, where lunch was offered to regain strength and continue the walk.

Along with the members of the Municipal Corporation and the Sant Isidre festival-goers, the queens of the Festes Majors Patronals, Valentina Almodóbar Climent and Laia Zamora Picó, also participated in this event, with their courts of honour; as well as the members of the rest of the festival commissions of the Hermitage of Sanç: Sant Antoni, El Roser and the Three Kings Parade; the Commission of Patronal Major Festivals; the Associació de Penyes Verge del Sofratge, as well as other neighbours who wanted to join in this tribute to San Isidro.

Once at the hermitage, the traditional auction of jugs and other typical garden products was held. The party continued with a giant paella and a performance by a live music group.
