The mayor, Toni Pérez, highlights the importance of identifying, recovering, interpreting and disseminating the historical heritage "by making it available to the public"
Benidorm celebrates an institutional plenary that promotes and commemorates the anniversary of its foundation
Benidorm has commemorated today the 694th anniversary of its foundation with an institutional plenary chaired by the mayor, Toni Pérez, who was attended by the members of the corporation and the heads of the State Security Forces and Corps, the Local Police and the Civil Protection, representatives of the Comissió de Festes Majors Patronal, of the Association of Penyes Verge del Sofratge, members of the Grup Carta de Poblament, as well as representatives of various festive, social and cultural entities of the city.
The mayor thanked the presence of all the people who filled the stalls and began recalling the anniversaries of May 8, 1325 when Admiral Bernat de Sarríá granted the Poblamiento Charter to Benidorm. "A town," he said, "that grew from the Castell and that, in the beginning, based its development with its work in the sea and the cultivation of its fields (...) and today offers the world as a powerful city , modern and innovative, a leader in world tourism and a reference today for planning and urban model, sustainability, efficiency and accessibility ".
The mayor has stressed the importance of highlighting this identity sign with an institutional plenary session. "Give visibility to our heritage," he said, "put it into value, as today we institutionalize this event, promote knowledge and dissemination of our origins as a people, the granting of the Puebla Charter, deserves and requires all our effort. How all our effort requires all that tangible and intangible heritage that we have to continue protecting after its recovery. " He has indicated that "it is part of our responsibility as public administrators, but it is also our obligation as Benidormen to recover the assets of that heritage and make them available to all citizens and future generations."
Toni Pérez has pointed out that "when it comes to strengthening the culture, history and identity of a people, I do not believe there is any more noble task than to value their heritage" and has concluded that in order to achieve that goal, "we must identify it, protect it, recover it, interpret it and disseminate it ", something to which your municipal government has dedicated" and what we have to continue doing, "he said. "Working in the present to develop the best future, without forgetting that today we are what we are, thanks, without a doubt, to our history". With this idea his intervention ended, after which the hymn of Benidorm was played.
