The actions will take place next week at the intersections with La Haya Street and with Moscú and Ciudad Real streets

Benidorm is carrying out two interventions on Severo Ochoa Avenue to improve road safety and traffic flow

Benidorm ejecuta dos intervenciones en Severo Ochoa para mejorar la seguridad vial y la fluidez del tráfico

Benidorm City Council will carry out two interventions next week on Severo Ochoa Avenue to improve road safety and traffic flow. The interventions will be carried out at two intersections where traffic jams and queues frequently occur due to the presence of schools and the fact that it is one of the main entrances and exits to Benidorm.

Both interventions will be carried out simultaneously to cover the shortest possible time, so that both interventions will be completed in approximately three days, according to the Councillor for Urban Scene and Mobility, Francis Muñoz, who visited the area where the work will be carried out this morning. Muñoz explained that the intervention is being carried out now, "when there is no school activity, so traffic is significantly reduced compared to during the school year."

The first intervention will be carried out at the intersection of Severo Ochoa Street and La Haya Street. At this point, horizontal and vertical signage will be installed to allow vehicles leaving the nearby school to turn left. A few meters further on, they can make a left turn or a U-turn. As this is a sufficiently wide intersection, U-turns will also be permitted for buses and trucks over five meters in length.

As for the second project, this will be carried out at the intersection of Severo Ochoa Avenue and Moscow and Ciudad Real streets. At this point, a small roundabout similar to the one at the intersection of Otto de Habsburgo and Montecarlo will be created. This will facilitate the merging of vehicles coming down Moscow, as well as improve and increase the flow of traffic on Severo Ochoa, avoiding the queues that occur on both roads. Vehicles will also be able to make U-turns, except for buses and trucks over five meters long, which will not be able to do so due to the intersection's lack of width.

Francis Muñoz announced that both projects will be carried out "next week, and the intention is to have everything completed in just three days, as work will also be carried out at night." The councillor also emphasised that with the work to be carried out, "we will increase traffic capacity at the intersections and, at the same time, minimise queues. We will also improve road safety with a simple but essential project."

The work will consist of "light milling of the areas where the work will be carried out to remove the existing paint, and then painting the final horizontal signage that represents the new state of the intersections and installing the corresponding vertical signage," concluded Francis Muñoz.
