Benidorm canalises and regenerates environmentally a section of the ravine of l'Aigüera and protects the network of drinking water
The erosion of the channel caused the rupture of one of the two pipes that supply much of the city in 2013 and 2015
Benidorm City Hall has acted in the upper part of l'Aigüera ravine, channeling and regenerating this space environmentally, and protecting the potable water network to avoid damages that could affect the service and supply of a good part of the city.
The mayor, Toni Pérez, and the councilman of Aguas, José Ramón González de Zárate, accompanied by municipal technicians, have visited the area to know the result of these works, which have meant an investment of around 90,000 euros by the fund investment in drinking water supply and sewerage.
Pérez explained that the area has been given "an absolutely sustainable and pedestrian treatment", creating "a new access" for passers-by "through the tunnel under the TRAM, which connects with the Els Tolls ravine." The mayor has indicated that it is "an area that until now may be unknown for many people of Benidorm," but that "over time" and with actions like this "it will acquire character of green lung and nature in the most urban environment "
In addition to adapting the area to "make it available to all citizens, and especially this area of l'Aiguera and Els Tolls," this action has also served to "support the slope of Callosa Street" and "further protect network of drinking water ". Thus, the mayor recalled that along this ravine and under the TRAM tunnel run the two pipes from the water treatment plant that supply the entire city, except for the area of La Cala.
In December 2013 and October of 2015 the city lived two very complicated episodes of torrential rains that, due to the erosion of the channel of the ravine, caused the rupture of one of the pipes. Some incidents that could have left Benidorm without drinking water if they had occurred in high season.
Although the pipelines were repaired as a matter of urgency after the last incident, it was still pending to act on land to prevent erosion of the slope and to re-strip the pipes. To achieve both objectives, work has been carried out on the front and back of the tunnel, as well as inside the tunnel, where a concrete wall and hearth have been executed. In addition, it has improved the catchment of the rainwater in the highest part of the ravine "in order to be able to generate the risks of the leisure park"
In the absence of auctions, the completion of the work will be certified shortly. "From there it will only be necessary to continue investing to improve what we have done", he concluded.
